I am a passionate educator with extensive experience in the State and Independent sector, including schools with a significant number of SEND pupils. I graduated from Exeter University with a BSc Hons in Biology and Geography before completing my PGCE. I have taught for more than thirty years in boarding and day, single sex and co-educational, independent and state-maintained schools. I understand the unique issues and priorities facing Heads, having myself been Head of two all-through schools, in Sussex and Yorkshire. I am particularly keen on celebrating women as educators, as the first female Head of a large co-educational boarding school.
As a former member of the Society of Heads' Committee and a member of the GSA Education Committee, I am passionate about creating a community of leading educators, particularly given the challenging times ahead. As a keen musician and former county sportswoman, I believe in providing holistic environments for development.
I am particularly focused on equal access. As a former consulting Head at a school for children with extreme needs, both socially and behaviourally, I am well placed to advise on accessibility and equal access in them in community. Following my retirement, I have pursued a career in educational consulting, in the UK and internationally, most recently at a School in the Netherlands. I have also dedicated considerable time to being a Governor, Chair of the Education Committee, and most recently Chair of Governors at a school in Sussex. Having served the maximum time possible, I have now stepped down and am ready for a new venture at Crayford Academy.
I was once told that being a Head is a very lonely job. I do not believe that it needs to be this way. Using my thirty plus years of experience in the education sector, I am delighted that as a member of the Governing Body, I will have the opportunity to work with the Head, the Senior Management Team and fellow Governors to ensure that we discover creative, intelligent and innovative ways forward thus ensuring that Crayford Academy is the number one choice of schools in the area.

I have been married to Kim for 44 years and our two children completed their secondary education at Hatcham College (HAHC). Our daughter has gone on to be Assistant Head and teaches Science for Middle School and Biology, Chemistry and the International Baccalaureate to Upper School and Sixth Form; our son completed an apprenticeship and has progressed to hold an engineering management post at a security and alarms company.
I retired in April 2020. My post at that time was General Manager for a large construction and facilities company looking after building maintenance and services. Areas I covered were M&E services, security, cleaning, catering, and projects, along with the management accounts, HR and personnel issues that managing a large and disparate workforce brings, along with dealing with client interfaces.
I became a parent governor at Hatcham College in 1998 while our children were both attending HAHC and, following my work with the school, I was nominated to become a Freeman of the Haberdashers' Company in the early 2000's. I was asked to assist with what was then Malory school. I shadowed the chair to their Governors so that I could learn the workings of the school, in advance of the school changing it's name to Knights Academy. When it formerly became part of the Federation I took over as Chair of the local governing body (LGB). Later, when Crayford Academy was taken into the Federation, I moved over and was Chair of Governors for their LGB until I retired in 2019, following 20 years of being a governor involved in seeing the Federation grow to included primary phases becoming, what was when I left, three all-through schools.
Following my time as a Freeman, I was invited to become a Liveryman at the Haberdashers' Company in 2009. I like to be active within the Company and attend Deputation Days at schools, and recently was very pleased to attend the Deputation for the Parish of All Saints in New Cross.
I currently work with Sharon Oliver Consultancy hearing independent appeals for school admissions. This is on an ‘as required' basis and covers several different schools across London and the South East.

Rob Bates is a Partner & Head of Claims at Nardac Insurance Services.
I've been working in renewable energy for over 10 years, predominantly in the insurance sector. During my masters, I took an elective in energy policy & decarbonisation that got me interested in what was then called 'Alternative Energy'; wind and solar power generation projects that would reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, and mitigate the worst effects of climate change. Not many would refer to renewables as 'alternative' these days.
After university, I interned in the claims department at GCube Underwriting, a leading specialist (re)insurer of renewable energy projects. Here I handled claims across all lines of business, including onshore and offshore wind, solar PV & CSP, cargo, wave & tidal, battery storage, run of river hydro, biomass and biofuels. After a few years as a Claims Adjuster, I moved to the underwriting side of the business, steadily working up to head of offshore wind. Despite strong headwinds during the soft market cycle, we built a profitable book of business that mostly concentrated on European projects, but also supported early East Asian, US and floating offshore wind projects. I also supported GCube's wider book of business, principally onshore wind and solar in the US, Europe and emerging markets.
I left GCube in 2020, and began working in the supply chain with Miros, a wave radar supplier building their presence in offshore wind. I then started my own independent risk consultancy, giving advice to developers, consultants, engineers and suppliers looking to pivot from oil & gas to renewables. I returned to insurance in 2021, this time as a broker for specialist wholesale & reinsurance broker NARDAC.
Over my career, I've been involved in over 300 renewable energy projects across the world. During that time, I have absorbed enough technical expertise to understand the risks this technology poses, and develop risk mitigation and risk transfer strategies to manage the growth this sector will experience over the next few decades. Working in claims also highlighted the importance of the policy wording, and how price might not necessarily be the determining factor when deciding which policy suits a client best.
I am also a Freemen of the City of London and a member of the Haberdashers' Company. With their support, I have become increasingly involved in their network of schools, pitching in on careers initiatives and have recently been accepted as a governor for the Hatcham Free School. Through all this, I aim to maximise the potential of young people and support the next generation of learners achieve their goals. -

Now working in the city, I am one of a just few people in my team who attended state school. Appointed by the Directors of the Trust Board in accordance with the Articles of Association
My name is Jack Hampton, I am a Senior Policy Advisor in the Department of Education where I have generally specialised in environmental policy. I feel it's important that school governors are approachable and relatable to the students they serve, and I hope that being relatively young for a governor (28), I will be able to bring that perspective to the governing body.
Before becoming a civil servant, I worked as a researcher at a widening participation charity. There I drove work to improve the understanding of how different forms of disadvantage which might affect a young person, interact and how this can inform the targeting of investment towards young people and neighbourhoods which need it most.
I am severely dyslexic with an associated phonological processing impairment and benefited from SEN support all the way through my education, from a state school in North Devon where I grew up, all the way to the University of Oxford and then Kings College London. This personal experience of the opportunities that education can grant when ways are found to allow potential to be realised is one of the main drivers behind my wish to work in education and to support Knights Academy as a governor.
Outside of work I am an active sportsman playing hockey in the London Premier League and a passionate environmentalist having recently directed my first film Paddling the Margins focused on the sustainable management of coastal resources in the Pacific Northwest.

Dr. Errord Jarrett, is a medical device professional that wants to be an inspiration to students using his career and lived experience as a map. Combining expertise in the medical device industry and business development, Dr. Jarrett's journey showcases his determination, being diagnosed with dyslexia late in life he turned it into an advantage as a strategic thinker and problem solver.
His early passion for the medical field led him to radiography, where he excelled, but in the mid 1980s there was not much of a career path for a man. He crafted a dream to combine his short experience of sales with his love of medicine, and the rest they say is history. As a leading figure in the industry, he supported companies to navigate the regulations and market demands in the early 1990s, and more recently post BREXIT.
As a school governor, Dr. Jarrett aims to add to the visionary leadership of an improving school, whilst advocating for a holistic and inclusive education environment. He is passionate about making the school a central light of the Downham estate community. He will seek to align the school's vision with student needs, and that of parents who have put their trust in Knights Academy to educate their children.
Dr. Errord Jarrett's journey inspires students to dream big, embrace challenges, and nurture their passions. His dedication to continuous learning and creative pursuits in landscape photography, headshot photography, singing and video editing, exemplify a balanced and impactful life. Also with him being an Old Boy of Haberdashers, and the first black Head Boy at Haberdashers Hatcham, he will encourage students to become leaders driving positive change in their communities and into their future careers.

I am a mother to three children, the youngest has just gone into year 7. I was a parent governor in my daughters' primary school and have the belief that if you want change, you need to instigate it.
I have worked in community development for over 20 years and my main interest is community cohesion. I have collaborated with third sector Black Lead Community organisations in Lewisham to investigate redressing the impact of the determinants' health inequalities.
I currently run a project in SLaM to encourage people from diverse communities to access preventative mental health services. I have an active interest in policy development, fundraising, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and information accessibility ensuring that information is distributed into the community in non-jargonistic language. I also believe in transparency and holding people accountable if it appears that transparency is lacking. I hope to bring these skills to my role as parent governor to support the school in improving engagement with both the parents/carers and the young people they work with.
