Haberdashers' Futures

Haberdashers' Futures is a unique career development programme which supports students to choose and pursue their chosen careers through creating opportunities to help them understand the working world and to acquire the skills and competencies they will need to be happy and successful in their working lives.

For sixth formers interested in engaging in the Haberdashers' Futures events or projects, please speak to your Head of Sixth Form.

Careers Support

In the Sixth Form, all students, whether they are considering higher education, employment or a gap year, are offered information on options through their form tutor, the Head of Sixth Form and our Independent Careers Adviser. We invite representatives from Higher Education, employment and training to talk to students about the options available to them and to support their university or employment applications. Students also attend a Higher Education Fair.

Livery Academy Awards

One of our favourite events of the year, the Livery Academy Awards, established in 2013, are designed to develop entrepreneurial and presentation skills among sixth-form students. Students from across our secondary schools, along with fellow Haberdashers’ academies in Shropshire, come together to compete in a Dragons Den style competition.

EACH SEPTEMBER OUR ACADEMIES RECRUIT SIXTH FORMERS TO FORM A TEAM TO ENTER THE LIVERY ACADEMY AWARDS TEAMS. Watch this short film to find out more.

The theme for 2023 is "Financing the Future"

You are pitching to investors to raise up to £500,000 to create a youth-based business or investment product that will support a sustainable future.

Your product or service can be designed to appeal to the consumer or business market. It could be focused on your local community or geared to a much wider audience.

For all information and a wealth of resources, please visit: https://www.liveryacademyawards.com/

The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers provide each team with mentors from the finance and marketing/advertising/creative sectors, drawn from the Livery company’s membership. The winning Haberdashers’ Academy of the first heat then goes on to present their pitch at Mansion House. Our teams compete against other Livery Academies such as the Merchant Taylors Academy, Drapers Academy and Grocers Academy.

The first heat takes place at Haberdashers’ Hall on 12th December 2022

The final takes place at Mansion House, the Lord Mayor’s HQ, on 30th January 2023

Participating in the competition has proven invaluable to our pupils. They have the opportunity to collaborate with peers, meet expert mentors, develop new skills and grow in confidence. The team members have predominantly gone onto be a part of their student leadership teams in Year 13 and successfully secured offers at respected universities.

Haberdashers' Company Apprentices

Membership to the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers introduces new professional networks and offers first hand insight into a historical institution. There are four ways to join the Haberdashers’ Company and becoming an Apprentice to the Company is an opportunity for our young people. Apprentices may progress through Freeman and Liveryman to Assistant.

Freemen or Liverymen of the Company may take young people between the ages of 17 - 21, their children, close relations, or pupils from any of the Haberdashers’ schools, as their apprentices. Being an apprentice of the company means that students are matched to a Freeman or Liveryman of the Company, which traditionally was called the Master Apprentice. Students can be apprentices while they are at university and offers them the opportunity to learn more about the Company, the history of the City and London and have a mentor that will guide and support them during their studies or early career.

This year, the Class of 2022 Head Boys and Girls were exceptionally all invited to become Platinum Jubilee Apprentices, and the Master of the Haberdashers’ Company offered this invitation to them all. A unique opportunity!
