How to Apply
Application Steps
1. Choose the best route for you
All our routes lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the option to pursue a PGCE at the same time and awarded by the University of East London (UEL). The programme remains the same length of time either way, but with a PGCE, you'll be expected to deliver a higher level of academic work.
- Salaried or apprenticeship - if you have 2-3 years' of UK classroom experience, you'll be able to apply for an employment-based role and be paid a salary from the school.
- Fee-funded - if you have little or no experience, you'll need to cover the £9k tuition and living expenses. However, you may be entitle to a student loan, bursary or scholarship.
2. Find a course
Search for our training programmes with the Department for Education’s ‘Find postgraduate teacher training’ service. You can search for Haberdashers' Academies Trust South by entering our training provider code 1KP on the page.View the subjects you can teach here.
You’ll need to provide details about your:
- Maths and English GCSEs (Science too if applying for primary)
-
A Levels (if you don't have a degree in the subject you'd like to teach)
- Degree (you can share details even if you haven't graduated yet)
If you have international qualifications, you can check comparability via ENIC or a free Get into Teaching adviser. Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas.

You will need to submit an online application form containing your contact details, a personal statement and at least two professional references. There is a lot to fill in, but don't worry! You don't have to complete everything in one sitting. You can save the form and return to it later.Check out some great application tips here.
Unsure as to whether you'll be suitable to teach a particular subject that you don't have a degree in? As long as they are closely aligned, you can take a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE).
Once you have submitted your application, we will notify you about whether you have progressed to the next stage of the recruitment process. This can be within days or months sometimes, depending on the vacancies that become available across the year.
4. Prepare for your Interview
If successful, you will be invited to an interview with us. This will determine your suitability to train to teach and assess your literacy and numeracy skills and subject knowledge - particularly in relation to the National Curriculum.
The assessment process will include:
-
A panel interview
-
A 20-minute teaching demonstration
-
Short Maths and English assessments and self-assessments
