Celebrating Wellbeing Week

Last month, we held our first Trust-wide Wellbeing Week, designed to give space for both pupils and staff to focus on belonging, movement and managing stress. The event is part of our wider Getting Active focus this year and part of our 20th Anniversary celebrations.

Between Monday 15 and Friday 19 September, each day had a different theme, from Belonging and Mindfulness to Physical Activity and Gratitude. Schools took part in a range of activities across the week from dance sessions to special assemblies and getting active with ‘20 challenges’ in the playground.

Here are just some of the ways schools took part:

  • Crayford Primary welcomed a dance teacher into school to lead 20-minute dance sessions, held an assembly to launch Active 60, and used their My Happy Mind PSHE curriculum to support mindfulness and gratitude.
  • Hatcham Primary and Hatcham Free School are joining in the anniversary spirit by running “20 Challenges” in the playground in honour of National Fitness Day.
  • Slade Green Primary linked the week to PSHE with a Tree of Belonging, a whole-school special assembly and a lunchtime movement challenge where each year group was challenged to move around the playground in inventive and fun ways.
  • Crayford Academy engaged in a full programme of events including appreciation postcards, a Tree of Appreciation designed by the art department with a paper chain of all the things pupils said make them feel included, exam preparation assemblies, Daily Mile wellness walks, nature walks, Just Dance and chair aerobics sessions for KS3 and KS4 students, and a step-up challenge for staff.

Wellbeing Week is about giving our school communities the opportunity to pause, connect and focus on the simple actions that can support both mental and physical health. It also reminds us of the importance of looking after ourselves and each other as we continue to build thriving, supportive environments for our pupils and colleagues.
