Hatcham Free School Maintains Outstanding Ofsted Rating
We are delighted to share that Haberdashers’ Hatcham Free School has once again been judged Outstanding in every category by Ofsted, following its latest inspection in June 2025.
This exceptional outcome reflects the hard work, commitment and expertise of staff, leaders and the wider school community, and maintains the high standards first recognised in the school’s previous inspection in 2015.
Inspectors highlighted the school’s ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum, consistently high academic expectations, and impressive outcomes for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Pupils were described as confident, resilient and happy learners, thriving in a calm and nurturing environment enriched by a wide range of experiences, both in and beyond the classroom.
Leadership across the school is described as highly effective, with a strong culture of professional collaboration and support. Early years provision, personal development and the breadth of opportunities available were all singled out as strengths. Inspectors also noted that pupils take an active role in shaping school life, with many participating in leadership roles and extracurricular activities spanning music, sport and public speaking.
Trust CEO, Jan Shadick, said:
This is a well-deserved and affirming judgment that reflects the dedication of an exceptional team and school. I’m proud of what has been achieved at Haberdashers' Hatcham Free School and grateful to every colleague who has contributed to creating such a warm, ambitious and inclusive environment for pupils to thrive.
This outstanding achievement comes at a time of transition, as Principal David Welsh prepares to take up a new leadership role beyond the Trust. We extend our heartfelt thanks to David for his exceptional leadership and the lasting legacy he leaves behind at Hatcham Free School.
