Livery Awards Enterprise Day

Each year, a group of Sixth Formers from Crayford Academy, Hatcham College and Knights Academy are selected to represent their school in the Livery Academy Awards, a Dragons Den- style competition in which the teams develop and present a business pitch to investors. This is an important part of the Haberdashers’ Advantage Programme at the Trust.

On 5th October, the teams attended an Enterprise Day at Hatcham College. The day was organised to give the students an opportunity to learn more about the competition, get to know each other, listen to speakers, and develop their brand.

In line with the competition’s theme ‘Climate’, speakers were invited to highlight the key climate issues to our students. Martha Selwyn, an ocean and climate expert from UN Global Compact, spoke about the global climate crisis and world-wide solutions. This was followed by Climate Action Lewisham, which focused on local community impact and solutions. With a better understanding of the pressing issues and possible solutions, the teams then began brainstorming business ideas that could help combat the climate emergency.

After lunch, the teams had a talk from a Brand Development expert about the importance of creating and promoting their brand, and how to powerfully promote this. We hope that our sixth formers have been inspired and gained a deeper insight into the pressing issues of the climate emergency and how they can shape an initiative to combat it!

Each year, two mentors from our chief benefactors, the Haberdashers’ Company are assigned to teams and they will now start working with all our teams in the forthcoming weeks to support their business idea and pitch.

The teams will compete in a first heat at Haberdashers’ Hall with all the Haberdashers’ Academies; Knights Academy, Hatcham College, Crayford Academy and Abraham Darby. The Final will be held at Mansion House and one Haberdashers’ school will compete against the other livery academies nationally.
