Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

We offer a high-quality and innovative school-based teacher training programme led and supported by Habs Institute for Professional Learning, the teacher training and professional learning arm of our Trust.

 

Below is an overview of the role of each organisation:
Tes Institute: the accredited ITT provider - has full and final accountability for all aspects of training design, delivery, and quality across the partnership;


Haberdashers’ Academies Trust South: the lead partner - has an operational or strategic role with responsibilities delegated to them by the accredited ITT provider, such as trainee recruitment, delivering training, involvement in ITT curriculum design, supplying lead mentors/mentor leadership teams, or running Intensive Training and Practice;


Placement School(s) - provide placements and general mentors.

Our Training Programmes

‘Haberdashers is a lead partner working with the accredited ITT provider Tes Institute. The courses enable our trainees to work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the additional option of pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

We deliver an innovative training programme with the accredited ITT provider Tes Institute, and combined with the support of our internal expertise, trainees develop comprehensive subject knowledge and professional skills while gaining practical teaching experience as an integral member of the school team. Our programmes have excellent retention rates with most of our trainee teachers going on to secure permanent teaching positions in our schools.

Training Opportunities

You can train to teach a range of subjects across the Primary and Secondary curriculum within one of our placement schools. There are two training routes available on our ITT programmes (employment based and fee-funded), as well as the opportunity to apply for a postgraduate apprenticeship (PGTA). How to Apply

You can apply for our teacher training programmes through DfE Apply for Teacher Training. You will need to submit an online application form containing your contact details, a personal statement and two references.

Once you have submitted your application, we will notify you by email or telephone whether or not you have progressed to the next stage of the recruitment process.

Decisions, offers, feedback, and deferrals

We are committed to ensuring:

-providing timely responses to applications.

-every applicant has time to attend interviews for other courses with other providers, and to consider the outcomes of other applications before accepting or declining offers with us.

-applicants are given a deadline to meet any offer conditions that have been set.

-applicants that apply and are interviewed at different times through the recruitment period,  should be given the same amount of time to meet the same conditions, where possible.

-if an application is rejected, feedback should explain the reason(s) why to the applicant, including advice on how the application can be improved.
