Sport at Haberdashers
Across our Trust, sport is a central part of the student experience, offering opportunities for every pupil to participate in a wide range of activities throughout the year. Our diverse sports programme, part of the Haberdashers' Advantage, includes everything from Cross Country and Rounders to Netball and Swimming, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Our secondary schools, all equipped with excellent facilities, take turns hosting events, fostering a spirit of collaboration and reinforcing our ethos of ‘Together, Stronger’. Beyond our internal competitions, we proudly participate in events across the wider Haberdashers' family. These include longstanding traditions like the Habs Fraser Rugby 7s, the Habs Athletics Competition at Oxford Athletics Track, and the Haberdashers’ Netball competition, alongside newer initiatives such as the annual Multi-Sport Festival held at the University of Wolverhampton.
We continually look to expand our sporting offer. Our Trust Swimming Gala brings both primary and secondary pupils together, and we hold our own Trust-wide Athletics Competition. In celebration of global events like the Paris 2024 Olympics, our schools collaborated in a unique torch relay, uniting the Trust’s schools in a display of teamwork and school spirit.
Collaboration extends beyond the field, with schools working together to share resources, expertise, and teaching. A prime example of this is our KS5 Physical Education students benefiting from cross-school learning, further emphasising our belief in ‘Together, Stronger’.

Habs Fraser Rugby 7
Each year, schools from across the Haberdashers’ school network compete in the Fraser Bird Rugby 7s competition.
Started by Lieutenant Colonel Fraser Bird (a former school governor at our sister schools in Elstree) who was passionate about bringing all of the Haberdashers' schools together to enjoy each other’s company through a regular sporting competition. The rugby tournament started in 1974 and has been an annual fixture. Each of our secondary academies enjoy taking part in the competitions, including Borough Academy, our newest academy in the Trust
Habs Athletics Competition
The Habs Athletics Competition sees all of the Haberdashers' family of schools join together to take part in a brilliant day of athletic sports. Athletics really is one of the most inclusive sports, where every child can take part and be recognised for both the success and their own personal achievement
The skills of running, jumping and throwing underpin almost every other sport and athletics can be used to enhance the wider PE and Sports offer.
Habs Netball Competition
Netball is a popular sport across all of our schools, and teams engage in a number of competitions locally and nationally. The Habs Netball Competition is a popular fixture in the school calendar, where Habs Schools come together to compete against each other to be crowned the winners. Netball really is an exciting, fast and skillful game of fair contest.
