Would you like to become a Governor in our Trust?

Each of our schools has its own Local Governing Body and we welcome expressions of interest from new governors.

Local Governing Bodies play a vital role in the governance of our schools. The Local Governing Bodies have been delegated responsibilities by the Trust Board and are focussed on monitoring and reviewing the quality of educational provision and the outcomes that children achieve; ensuring the school is following the Trust’s vision and strategy; agreeing specific school policies and checking compliance against them, with a focus on safeguarding, SEND provision and the most disadvantaged children. Each school has a Local Governing Body and they are responsible for supporting school leaders. They are accountable to the Trust Board, which sets the strategic direction for our Trust and all of its schools.

Those seeking to be appointed, or elected as governors to the Local Governing Bodies should have:

  • A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
  • An understanding and commitment to the requirements of the role as set out in the Trust’s Governor Code of Conduct
  • Sufficient capacity to participate and make meaningful contributions to the LGB both in advance of and during meetings and making time to participate in panels and reviews as requested
  • To review LGB meeting papers in advance and to ask questions to raise challenge and support in the meetings
  • Good inter-personal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills

It is our goal that the governance of our schools and the Trust is fully representative of the communities in which they serve and the wider society that we all live in. For that reason, we are particularly keen to encourage candidates from under-represented groups to apply for the role.

Code of Conduct

All governors and trustees must adhere to the Governor Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct - Governors - August 2026

Governors act in the interests of the school and the children it serves. Governors must commit to participating fully for the whole of their term of office, which will be for four years. The role of a governor is carried out both in Local Governing Body meetings and outside:

  • The governing body meets four times a year, in addition to an annual conference.
  • Governors formally visit the school at least once per year and ideally more often.
  • Governors sit on appeals panels considering exclusions and complaints.

Regular and ongoing training is provided for all governors to support them to carry out the role effectively. Governors are not expected to be instant experts in education and together, the Trust, the School and established governors will support new governors to succeed in their role.
